Career counseling and vocational designing for equitable, inclusive, and sustainable societies

Laura Nota
Professor of Vocational Psychology and Psychology of Inclusion at University of Padova
Abstract
Vocational designing and career counseling for a new society should contribute to the improvement of living conditions for all people and participate in facing what are called wicked problems, with complex approaches that hold together the micro, meso, and macro-social levels and awareness of a socio-economic system unscrupulously centered on unfettered profit. Vocational designing and career counseling can no longer fail to question their own contribution, their own approaches and instruments, their own theoretical models that maintain the status quo and increases inequality; they should increasingly support the design of the future by combining the intertwining of individual choices with social responsibility and respect for the rights of all people, living beings and the planet.
